I had the privilege of working backstage yesterday alongside a fellow trainee with the cast and crew of Come Fly Away, a Twyla Tharp dance spectacle inspired by Frank Sinatra. It was a great experience seeing the ins and outs of how backstage PT works, including loading up each and every piece of equipment and toy into a specially made rolling armoire (which I should add that the crew was boastful about its brand spanking new
BLUE wheels they added on just the day before... very snazzy). This is not the quickest task due to the deflating, folding, and Tetris-ing required, but went by smoothly having four hands (and two bodies used mainly for the deflating of multiple exercise balls - let your imagination soar) instead of two. Not only was working with the cast and crew a fantastic experience, the day was topped off by being able to view the "invite only" dress rehearsal. One word: PHENOMENAL!!! The show is only in Atlanta through August 7th, 2011 but if it comes to a
city near you and you have an adoration for dance and ol' Frank, it has my highest recommendation! I'm even going to see it again myself opening night with another trainee as a paying spectator! So all in all, I was able to get a little taste into what life is soon to be like working as a PT backstage. And by soon, I mean super duper soon, as in 3 DAYS soon! Speaking of which, I need to get packing, pronto. In the words of Frank Sinatra, "The best is yet to come!"
